Hunger and thirst
How hunger, thirst and nutrition stats actually work in SCUM.
SCUM does not have a simple “hunger” bar. It tracks calories, hydration, vitamins, minerals and macronutrients (proteins, carbs, fats) separately.
The basics
- Calories: your body burns them constantly. At 0, you lose HP and stamina.
- Hydration: drops faster than calories. At 0, you die quickly.
What the UI hides
Eating only meat fills calories but leaves you without vitamins/minerals. In the medium term, your character gets sick, loses endurance and tires faster. The ideal mix includes:
- Meat (protein + fat)
- Vegetables and fruit (vitamins, minerals)
- Bread/cooked grain (fast carbs)
Hunger states
| State | Effect |
|---|---|
| Well fed | Slow stamina and HP regen. |
| Mild hunger | No noticeable penalty. |
| Strong hunger | You lose weight, max stamina drops. |
| Starvation | Continuous damage. |
Drink boiled or purified water. Drinking from puddles or rivers unfiltered gives you dysentery, which dehydrates you faster than you can drink.
