How to create culinary masterpieces.

Don't settle for canned beans, scavenged vegetables, fruit, or raw meat from roadkill when there is a wide choice of meals you can cook and make your life that much tastier.

Cooking With Electricity VS Cooking With Heat

Meals can be cooked in different ways: the first is on an open flame of a Fireplace or a Fire Ring with an addition of a Grill Grid - all of these can be crafted. The second way is on an oven or a stove. Ovens and stoves can be found in almost any residential building. You can also find portable gas and electric stoves to cook your meals on the go.

If you wish to cook something on the stove or a portable gas stove, you will need a gas source in the form of a gas tank. To cook something in the oven or on the portable electric stove, you will need a generator. Without those, the appliances cannot be turned on and used to cook.

Cooking A Meal

Every prisoner has a handful of recipes they can try to make as soon as they land on the island. To see which recipes you have access to, press [Shift + T] to open up the Cooking tab. To start creating more complex and rich meals, you will need to find cookbooks while looting which will unlock further recipes. There are various cookbooks for different types of food and drink. When you have found the recipe you want to cook, collected all the required ingredients and cookware, approach the required appliance. To cook the meal, you need to :

Keep an eye on the timer in the top right side of the cooking slot while cooking. The closer the timer is to 0 or the bar closer to the far right, the better the quality of the meal will be. Adding optional ingredients will increase the quality of your meal.
