Basic Movement

How to move and not get killed.

The very basics of movement are essential to survive the dangerous environments of The Island. The game provides a variety of options that enable tackling any type of obstacle and situation.

Movement Control

Press [W] and [S]to move forwards and backwards, [A] and [D]to move left and right. Sometimes when traversing a great distance, using [Shift + W] to auto-walk can be a great help. Press [Space] to jump and vault over obstacles. Hold [Q] or [E] to lean to the left or right.

Press [C] to crouch. You can use [Ctrl + Scroll down] and [Ctrl + Scroll up] to set the crouch height more precisely. Press [X] to go prone.

Movement Speed

Prisoners can move throughout the Island at 3 different paces: walking, jogging, and running. Increase your pace with [Scroll up] and decrease it with [Scroll down].

Camera Movement

Press [Enter] to switch between 1st person and 3rd person camera. Use your mouse to look around with the character facing the way you look. To free-look, hold [Alt] and then move your mouse. This is especially useful when there is a need to remain silent, but still have a look around you.
